New Mexico, we love you!

Due to Peter's emergency gall bladder removal, we left on May 30th and went south to meet our group in the mountains at Ruidoso. It was 390 miles from our home in Tucson and we drove it all in one day.......the last 1/4 with no dashboard AC or fans! So, we turned on the generator and ran the coach AC.....do we know what we're doing, or not (see below!)? Anyway, on Monday we called the mfg. (Tiffin) who directed us to a very small black button on one of several solenoids to reset it. We're not sure who would instinctively know this but we will......next time. We went to the quarter horse races at Ruidoso....won $37 (after spending $50 but you don't think of that when you are collecting at the window!). We spent another day driving thru the Honda Valley to Lincoln, home of William Bonnen "Billy the Kid" and the 1868 "War of Lincoln" between two merchants. The town is still intact and lived in.....very fun. The country up there is beautiful so do go see it all someday. From there we caravaned to Carlsbad....170 miles of not much except I left the emergency brake on in the Jeep (see above!)....miraculously, no harm done! We saw the bat ascension at the Caverns then spent the next day in the Caverns, walking about 4 miles total. It is very cool inside the Caverns and awesomely huge with a variety of formations at every turn. Another must-see in one's lifetime. We then spent 3 nites in Las Cruces after a very hairy drive. Peter did a fabulous job negotiating the mountain grades and the 30 mph winds. We stayed on one more night after the others had left so we could see White Sands Natl. Park and the missile range. All these rockets, Nikes, 1st, 2nd, 3rd stage stuff, et. all over to look at! We leave 6/18 for our big 4 month trip. We will have my computer on that one and will be posting. Till then.......
Best from Sybil and Peter

I loved learning about your trip. You write just like you talk, Sybil! You make it seem like such fun that you and Peter are having.

Glad to know you are going to be home for a few days.

See you soon!

Nice photo at White Sands! Didn't know you were see-through Sybil.....you have a whole right through the middle of you. You tricky little photo-shopper!

Curses, I just wanted to write "bon voyage" and it seems I have to create some kind of damn account. Criminey.

It seems Sybil has gotten a haircut since I've last seen her. You're looking pretty darn good for a mature woman! (sorry Sybil, but that comment will crack up my dad).

Speaking of dad. You know how some people trade in their OLD chevy for a newer, younger, model...? Well, all I'm saying is you know where to find me.

I hope you guys have fun on your RV trip. Just remember, every gallon of gas you burn is another four bucks I'm not gonna get when you die.

All kidding aside, I'm thrilled you two have started a blog so I can keep tabs on your mobile adventure. Have a great time. Be safe. Don't drive when you're too tired. Take pictures. I miss you both.

Love,

the newer, younger version.

Sounds like you are having a wonderful time. Glad to hear that all is going OK (aside from a few glitches!!). We just got back from Alaska last night so we are busy getting all those awful things done that have to be done when you get back from a trip!! We had such a marvelous time with a great bunch of people.
Drive carefully, take care and stay safe.
We miss you.
Love, Pat and Ron

We can testify from Denver that as of June 23 the Jeep had successfully climbed Pike's Peak and then brought our intrepid Sybil and Peter from Colorado Springs for a steak cookout at the Denver Country Club. As their greatest admitted challenge has been maneuvering that 21st century Prairie Schooner for fueling up, the plan to complete a visit to Mt Rushmore before the 4th of July seems well in hand.

Sybil & Peter: It looks like you guys are having a great time. I love the pictures.

You missed some excitement!

Well, the Mexican Monsoon has begun in our part of Arizona. We have had thunderstorms Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon. Thursday, June 26, around 5PM, lightning hit this house about two blocks north of us. The SaddleBrooke fire department came fairly quickly and confined the fire to the master bedroom and nearby. The owners were at the PHX airport on the way to Geneva but neighbors contacted them before they departed.

We have a "whole house" surge suppressor and hope it will help us if hit.
